Economic:
"Uganda is one of the economically poorest nations on Earth. This poverty fuels environmental destruction by reducing opportunities poor rural people have to make a living and encourages ever-expanding farms to provide subsistence and what little money the people can earn. The NC Zoo has been working to aid the development of crafts for sale to tourists and for export as well as the development of small-scale ecotourism facilities. The expanding tourist and crafts markets have become an important sources of income in Uganda with an average annual income of $250.00. Selling baskets and crafts is especially important for women who have few other opportunities in the isolated rural communities. The community groups are re-investing their profits from the craft sales and ecotourism into the construction of schools and medical clinics in the remotest parts of Uganda. " Joy Hamlin, Curator of Education, North Carolina Zoo"

Education:
"The mission of Uganda Education is: "To provide for, support, guide, coordinate, regulate and promote quality education and sports to all persons and in Uganda for national integration, individual and national development." Quoted from Ministry of Education & Sports
"The existing structure of the education system in Uganda has been in force since the early 1960s. It consists of seven years of primary education followed by the lower secondary cycle of four years and the upper secondary cycle of two years, after which there are three to five years of university studies.
On successful completion of the primary school cycle, one can either join lower secondary school or take a three-year craft course in a technical school. However, only about 40% of the primary school graduates are absorbed into the secondary cycle, which implies that there are fewer schools than available students, presenting an investment opportunity to private investors". Quoted from My Uganda
Government:
"Uganda has experienced a number of changes from the time when it was declared a British Protectorate in 1860. A number of developments have occurred in the areas of social, economic and political establishment. However the area that has seen significant changes is the political governance of Uganda.
Since 1962, when Uganda attained independence from the British Uganda has so far seen a total number of 7 Presidents with 8 regimes". Quoted from Uganda Government (site appears to not work 3/29/05) Use this link for information on The Uganda Statehouse
